  Headframe Hoist

Hmmm...what is it?  If you had lived in Bodie, California during the late 1800's, you would know that it's part of a mine shaft hoist.  Bodie is a fascinating ghost town maintained by the state of California in a "state of arrested decay."  From Highway 395 it's at least 13 miles of bumpy, dusty roads to Bodie, but it's well worth the drive.
